Monaco is the second smallest country in the world after Vatican City. With a total area of only 2 square kilometers, you could easily take a walk around the country! The city is known for its abundance of wealthy people with over thirty percent of the population being millionaires! More than half of the country’s population will fit into its football team’s stadium, the Stade Louis II.
Interestingly, the native people of Monaco are in minority. They make up only about one-fifth of the population, with the rest being made up of; you guessed it, wealthy foreigners!
Perhaps we’ve all heard o the Monte Carlo casino. But few of us know that the locals aren’t even allowed to enter the casino, let alone gamble! The claim to fame for this 153 year-old casino comes from its ornate design as well as its appearance in three Bond films.
Sports fanatics will know Monaco as the venue for the Monaco Grand Prix, a circuit known for its narrow streets. It is hard to master this racing track, but Ayrton Senna won here 6 times, an achievement yet to be paralleled by anyone else.
People usually associate rush hour with high traffic and lots of people moving about. But in case of Monaco, something more interesting happens. The country’s population more than doubles when people from neighboring France travel there for work. Quite interesting!
